Description
The aim of the EducLang Student Leadership Award is to recognize the volunteer work of any EducLang graduate student that goes above and beyond the minimum work required of a graduate student.
The award will recognize students volunteering their time and efforts to:

Create a sense of community within the EducLang research group

Improve the quality of the EducLang student experience;

Promote the EducLang research group within and outside of the university;

Initiate / lead professional learning and networking opportunities for the EducLang community.
Eligibility Criteria

Any member of the EducLang community, including students, faculty or staff, is welcome to submit nominations for the award. Recipients must be currently enrolled at the University of Ottawa in either a full-time or part-time graduate capacity. Students may receive only one EducLang Student Leadership Award during their studies.

Nominees must be members of the EducLang community to be eligible to apply for the award. To become an EducLang graduate student member, please register on our Home page.

Initiative, leadership and involvement with the EducLang group will be considered. The value of the student’s contribution, rather than the office held, will be the major criterion considered.
Here are some examples of initiatives that could be facilitated by students:

Contributing blog posts to Student Voice

Hosting an EducLang Podcast

Organizing (virtual) meet-ups / Other events

Organizing mock theses / proposal defenses

Hosting Special Interest Readings groups

Hosting writing retreats

Creating a logo for the EducLang research group

Launching an EducLang journal

Organizing yearly EducLang Grad student Symposium at the JPDS

2. A letter of reference from an EducLang student member
Deadline is May 27, 2022.

Selection Process
The process of selecting recipients for the award will occur within the EducLang Research Unit by core faculty members of the EducLang group.
Award Value
Each academic year ONE $300 award will be given for the EducLang Student Leadership Award.
Award Presentation
The Award will be presented to the recipient of the EducLang Student Leadership Award at our EducLang evening event on June 10, 2022.
