Call for proposals
Social inequities remain a growing concern in society and amongst researchers from a variety of academic disciplines. In second language education, political decision-making related to programming and curricula in schools continues to favour a monolingual, homogeneous vision of language teaching and learning (Cummins, 2014; Hinton, 2016); this despite recent advances in research that clearly show the need to systematically address such inequities in order to optimize school success.
In response to what we see as a pressing need for dialogue and collaboration in this regard, our academic research group EducLang at the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education will hold its conference from September 26th-28th, 2019.
This year’s conference builds on EducLang 2018 by facilitating additional multidirectional dialogue, collaboration and innovation across diverse stakeholder groups in language teaching, including established and emerging researchers, graduate students, practicing teachers, teacher candidates, as well as professional association representatives. We are also thrilled to be partnering our conference this year with the Canadian Association of Second Language Teachers (CASLT), the premier association representing second language teachers in Canada. CASLT’s mission is to promote the advancement of language learning and teaching throughout Canada by creating opportunities for professional development, initiating and disseminating research, and facilitating the exchange of information and ideas among language educators.
Participation in the EducLang 2019 conference can take many forms. In addition to engaging in plenary sessions and networking events, we invite you to share current language education research and practice via paper presentations, symposia, workshops or posters. We welcome proposals that broaden the scope of inquiry of EducLang’s five research strands or align more broadly with our overarching goal of establishing a space for productive dialogue, collaboration and innovation that addresses inequity in language education.
